Bring a little nature and a bit of fussy cutting to a scrapbook layout.
I have been scrapbooking since 2006, however, it's been more than a minute since I have sat down to make one. With the beautiful paints and mediums from Perfect Paints paired together with 49 & Markets' yummy papers and die cuts, it wasn't hard to step right back in and create a layout of my daughter and her fiance, Ben. Now my layouts have never fit in scrapbooks, they are usually far too dimensional and have to be kept in plastic containers. This one is no exception.
First I pulled out a beautiful 12 x 12 scrapbook paper from 49 & Market from their "Vintage Artistry Naturalist" collected, titled "Meadow." I am a self-professed fussy cutter, so all the butterflies throughout this collection made me very happy. I grabbed a sheet full of butterflies and got to cutting. Once cut, I distress the edges and on the large butterfly, I painted it with Perfect Paints Shimmering Acrylics, "Cantaloupe", "Bright Gold" and "Vintage Patina" to give it more vibrant color, effect, and shimmer in the light.
Next, I wanted to enhance the colors on the actual paper itself, this is a great trick to use on many pages using paint. I added "Vintage Patina, Cantaloupe, and Bright Gold," Shimmering Matte Acrylics directly to the page. Check out the before and after below, it's subtle but adds color and shimmer.
Now lets add some texture to the page itself using Polishing Plaster "Gilded Azure," and TCW's 6" x 6' "Hole Punch," stencil, and Liquitex Palette Knife to create a moment in the top left and bottom right corners.
I wanted to add a cool dimensional aspect to the layout so went out on my homestead and foraged some cool sticks that still had a little bark on them. I used the same color paints as the page plus Shimmering Matte Acrylics,"Peacock Blue" to the stick. I wanted to create a perch look for the butterflies to launch from.
I used all the paints randomly and covered portions of the bark. I left areas bare wood as well. Adhere to your page with Beacon Adhesives Zip Dry.
Once everything dries, you can start assembling the page. I added the large butterfly to the stick and placed all the butterflies around it to look like they were all flying around to the picture of the kids. Added lots of die cuts from 49 & Market Botanical Ephemera Bits using both the "Meadow" and "Botanical" kits.
The final layout has a ton of paint, texture, and shimmer from Perfect Paints and really enhanced the overall look of the finished page.
I can't wait to see what you do with paints and textures on your next scrapbook layout. -Candy Rosenberg
