Creating Your Own Holiday Magic: Crafting a DIY Shadow Box for the 7th Day of Christmas!
Welcome to the festive journey of creativity and holiday spirit! On the 7th Day of Christmas, we’re diving into a delightful project that captures the enchanting essence of winter: a magical shadow box. As the snowflakes fall and the twinkling lights adorn our homes, what better way to celebrate the season than by crafting a whimsical display that can brighten up any bookshelf?
Hi everyone! I’m Becky, and I’m thrilled to guide you through this fun and easy DIY shadow box idea that will not only add a festive touch to your decor but also evoke the wonder of Christmas. Let’s gather our supplies and unleash our imagination as we create a whimsical world filled with snow, cheer, and holiday magic!
For this cute project you will need the following supplies:
49 & Market Christmas Spectacular Collection Paper Pack
49 & Market Christmas Spectacular General Laser Cut Elements
Brilliant Glow Glitter
3D glue dots
Shadow Box
Perfect Paints Marble Plaster Stucco
Perfect Paints White Crackle Texture Medium and Crackle Sizing
Perfect Paints Shimmering Matte in Red Wagon
Instructions:
To start I used the backing of the shadow box to trim and cut all of my paper. For this particular project I choose a bold pattern and then the matching solids. Each layer is trimmed a little smaller than the last one. I used glue dots to adhere each layer to the backing of the shadow box.
I love the look of crackle paint and could not wait to use my Perfect Paints Crackle Texture Medium. First you will need to use the Crackle Sizing. I used a palette knife to layer on the sizing in a few corners. Wait for this to get tacky before adding the White Crackle Texture Medium. Several things will depend on the amount of cracking you will get, such as the thickness of the medium.
Once it is ready I added the White Crackle medium on top of the crackle sizing. Then set it aside and let the magic begin. I wanted it to be completely dry before we went to the next step. Look at that crackle!
Now that everything is dry, I added a touch of the Shimmering Acrylic Red Wagon in the corners and started adding my embellishments. I used some holly leaves, ribbon, Joy to the World, bell and trees from the Laser Cut pack. I wanted these to pop off the page so I added 3D pop dots to the back and added extra dots if I wanted it to stick out even further.
For a final touch I added some Marble Plaster Stucco to the base of the tree and along the leaves to give it a snow effect. Finish off with a touch of glitter.
Hope you enjoyed this fun tutorial and stay tuned for our next Christmas project tomorrow.
