Embrace The Journey Altered Hoop with Perfect Paints

Hello Everyone! Jenn DuBell here, and I’m thrilled to welcome you back to another exciting creative project! As the leaves begin to change and the air turns crisp, I find myself inspired by the rich, warm hues of Fall — especially the stunning shades of plum and gold that evoke the beauty of the season's foliage. Today, I'm eager to share a delightful tutorial on how to transform a simple embroidery hoop into a striking piece of home decor, using the exceptional range of products from Perfect Paints.

In this step-by-step guide, I’ll walk you through how to create a beautiful home decor piece for your own home or to give that special friend.  So gather your materials, unleash your creativity, and let’s dive in!

Directions:

To begin, paint your hoop using black acrylic paint and set aside to dry.

Use the hoop to trace the proper sized circle onto patterned paper. Cut a piece of medium weight chipboard the same size and adhere to the back side of the paper circle. This will be adhered to the back of the hoop once completed.

To prep the surface coat it in clear gesso and allow to dry or use a heat tool.

Once the gesso is completely dry, use a decorative stencil to apply the polishing plaster through. This will create dimension and texture.

Allow the polishing plaster to dry thoroughly. Once dry use a spray bottle of water and spritz both sides of the circle. Add some Black Distress Ink to a glass mat and spritz it with water.

Using a paint brush dip it in the distress ink and then to the water on the circle. Allow the black to move and run until you get the result you want. We will be adding one color at a time in the same way.

To achieve the shade I wanted I mixed two of the Shimmering Matte Acrylics. First Red Wagon then a few drops of Grape. I added a spritz of water to the cup and mixed with a stirring stick.

Rain Slicker and Honey Gold were also mixed to get a different shade of gold. Once each color is dry you can repeat the process of spritzing with water and applying the next color with a paint brush.
