How to Create a Stunning Paint Pour Wreath with Perfect Paints!
Hello and Merry Christmas! Becky Conley here, and I’m excited to share a unique twist on the ever-popular art of paint pouring. While many are familiar with the classic methods of this mesmerizing technique, today I’ll be introducing you to "bead pulling"—an innovative approach that adds a stunning visual flair to your creations. With the use of Perfect Paints Shimmering Matte Acrylics, the results are not only eye-catching but also have a beautiful glistening quality that captures the essence of the holiday spirit. Join me as we explore how to transform ordinary materials into breathtaking works of art that will brighten your festive season and inspire your creative journey!
SUPPLIES:
Perfect Paints Shimmering Matte Acrylics
Other Supplies: 16" round canvas, Floetrol paint medium, black acrylic paint, string beads 16" - 18" long, 5" snowflake ornament, faux foliage, ribbon, glitter, hot glue, regular white glue, propane torch.
INSTRUCTIONS: (These step images are screen shots from a very long, too long video. They may appear grainy or such, but I thought it important to share the movement and progress of the process.)
Prepare paint for pouring. Mix acrylic paints with 1 part paint, 2 parts Floetrol. Add water as needed to get desired consistency. Please note: Floetrol medium is white. When mixed with the paint it lightens the appearance, but when it dries, the brilliance of the paint colors returns.
Create a "troth" for loading the paint onto the beads. (I used a cardboard center from a roll of tinfoil, cut in half down the length.) Tape a rectangle of cardboard to a covered work surface, then hot glue the "troth" to it for stability.
Pour the black acrylic paint mixture over the entire surface of the 16" round canvas. (Canvas is sitting up on cups, pins or painters' triangles to keep from sticking to the protected surface) Use a torch to release any bubbles that may have occurred from mixing or pouring.
Pour Perfect Paint Shimmering Matte Acrylics mixed paints into the troth.
5. Lay one strand of beads at a time into the troth to coat with paint. Lay the paint-coated beads down toward the center of the black canvas in a wiggled pattern and pull the beads out toward the edge.
TIP: If you get too much paint on your beads and the fleur runs together, lay down a clean string of beads and pull it through the same area. (Please pardon my arm in the shot)
Continue to build the design, filling in and overlapping bead pulls.
CLOSE-UP OF BEAD-PULL FLEURS
Let the completed painted canvas dry for 3 days before embellishing.
Hot glue the 5" snowflake to the center of the canvas. Cut foliage from sprigs to tuck behind the snowflake and hot glue into place. (I wasn't fond of the "jewel" in the center of the snowflake, so I covered it with white glue and sprinkled with gold glitter)
Cut sprigs of faux foliage and assemble a swag. Tie with ribbon and/or use hot glue to connect it at the center.
Place a bow in the center, then hot glue to the top of the canvas.
There were technical difficulties in creating this project, due to being in a new studio location only. (The Paints were Perfect, as always!) However, I am thrilled with the final result and was excited to share it with you. I hope you are inspired to try something new.
Merry Christmas to all,
Becky Conley
