Smell the Flowers Mixed Media Journal Page
Good morning, friends! Nicole here with a fun mixed media journal page. I have been working on an album for Simple Stories and I love how they include chipboard pages in their albums. They are perfect for applying mixed media mediums to create a fun insert page for the album! Initially, I wasn't going to share this as a post, but I love it too much not to share.
To begin, I painted the chipboard page using a paint brush and the Rain Slicker Shimmering Matte Acrylics. I let it sit for an hour to dry.
Next, I taped down the floral stencil on top of the yellow.
After that, I used my palette knife to add a nice amount of Perfect Clear Texture Gel on a piece of plastic wrap. Don't throw away your packaging... They are great for mixed media projects...
I used my palette knife to scoop some Shimmering Matte Acrylics in Ballet Slipper. I added a little too much...but it was ok. You really only need a fraction of what I used!!
I mixed the mediums together and then used the pallet knife to pull the combined mediums through the stencil.
After that, I carefully pulled the purple tape from the stencil. You do not want to just rip the tape off while the paint and glaze is wet... you could possibly shift the stencil...
Ah, isn't this beautiful! I am not done yet... I still have a bit to share. :) I let this dry .
Once the first layer was completely dry, I taped the stencil back down over the pink flowers. Next, I dipped my finger in the Halo Shimmering Matte Acrylic to add some more color to add depth to the flowers. I let this sit for an hour to dry. Then I removed the tape and then cleaned the stencil for the next layer.
I placed the stencil back over the painted flowers so I could paint the leaves using the Spring Green Shimmering Matte Acrylics. I used a thin brush for the leaves. Also, in case you were wondering why I keep placing the stencil over each layer...I do this so I can prevent smears outside the images. The initial layer with the glaze adds just the right texture so that the stencil keeps everything in place! That is how I am able to get a nice clean floral background.
Here is how pretty it looks after all of the layers have been painted! It took awhile to complete, but it's so worth it. It will look great in my album once it's all completed!
What do you think? You can easily apply this technique in an art journal, too. I just love it so much!
Thank you so much for visiting today! I hope you found this technique inspiring and useful!
