The Spooktacular Cabinet of Curiosities:
Hello Craft Fam !
With Halloween creeping around the corner, I thought, why not conjure up a little chaos and creativity? For my latest design team project with Perfect Paints, I decided to build a cabinet of curiosities. You know, those delightfully weird collections that make you feel like you’re one potion away from becoming a mad scientist. It’s a perfect way to embrace the spooky season.
To whip up my eerie masterpiece, I gathered a few essential ingredients:
Chipboard (various sizes, because who doesn’t love cutting things?)
Black gesso (for that goth-chic vibe)
Perfect Paints shimmering acrylics:
Sangria (the color of Halloween parties gone wild)
Bohemian Blue (because every spooky project needs a little zen)
Grape (for the win)
Barely There (perfect for ghosts)
Cajun Pumpkin (a spicy touch)
Craft knife and cutting mat (my trusty tools of terror)
Ruler and pencil
Adhesive (a.k.a. my best friend)
Various spooky decorations
Let’s kick things off with a base chipboard of 9 x 6.5 inches.
The structure? Two doors and four drawers—because who doesn’t need storage for their magical mishaps? Here’s the blueprint of my spooky creation:
Top Counter: 6.5 x 2, 6.75 x 2.25, 7 x 2.5 inches (you know, just enough space for all my secrets)
Cabinet Floor: 6.5 x 2, 6.75 x 2.25, 7 x 2.5 inches
Side Panels: 2 x 3.25 inches (2) (to keep it upright, obviously)
Drawers: 0.5 x 1.5 inches (2), 0.75 x 2 inches (2) (for all those tiny treasures)
Front Doors: 3.5 x 6.5 inches, 2 x 3.25 inches (2), 1.75 x 3 inches (2) (because dramatic entrances are a must)
Assembling this bad boy felt like I was piecing together an IKEA unit—only with fewer instructions and more witchy vibes. I cut extra chipboard for a layered look that screams “I’ve got secrets to hide!”
Now, let’s talk shelves. I needed a display for my mystical collection, so here are the measurements for those:
Shelf: 6 x 1 inches (2) (perfect for potion bottles)
Top Panel: 6.5 x 2, 6.75 x 2.25, 7 x 2.5 inches
Side Panels: 5 x 1 inches (2) (because balance is key)
Before I went full Picasso, I primed the cabinet with black gesso. Why black? Because it’s classic and always makes things look 100% cooler. Then came the glorious moment of painting with Perfect Paints’ shimmering acrylics.
I kicked things off with Sangria Shimmering Matte Acrylics, followed by Bohemian Blue and Grape.
To really set the Halloween mood, I splattered on some Barely There and Cajun Pumpkin—because what’s a spooky cabinet without a little chaos?
With paint drying, it was time to fill this beauty with all things weird and wonderful. I grabbed some potion bottles, mini books from the Tim Holtz ideology collection, and a few random spooky knick-knacks.
Creating this cabinet of curiosities has been a fun journey into the spirit of Halloween. It perfectly captures the season’s essence which wouldn’t be possible without the fabulous paints from Perfect Paints. So go on, embrace your inner mad scientist, and let the spooky crafting begin!
Happy haunting!
Love,
Eva
